Dear Choral Parents and Guardians,
Every academic year the Westfield Choral Program travels to participate in a music festival competition. This year our trip will be to New York City over the dates of March 13-16. The students will compete in the Heritage Music Festival at Staten Island College. While we are in New York, we will attend The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Broadway musical) and Lucia di Lamermoor at the Metropolitan Opera house in Lincoln Center. Additionally, the students will have a workshop with the performers of Spelling Bee. Please review the attached itinerary for complete information. The cost of the trip is $569.00.
This letter is to notify you that if your student wishes to participate in the choral trip, the first installment payment will be due on October 16 in the non-refundable amount of $150.00. The $150 deposit and completion of the Trip Commitment Form will reserve your student’s spot on the trip. No deposits will be accepted after October 16. The installment schedule is below.
Fundraising is an important part of financing trip participation for many choral students. Our annual pie sale will occur in October as well as our citrus fruit sale. In January, we will have the Second Annual Dance Marathon. Last year several students earned over $500 toward their trips just from participating in the Dance Marathon. As fundraisers occur, individual students are credited toward the cost of their trips. Please note that it is likely that funds from the pie sale will not be credited toward student accounts in time for the initial deposit, but will be applied toward subsequent payments.
The boosters will advertise for chaperones once the first deposit is received from students; we are unable to determine how many chaperones are needed until we know how many students plan to go. Once we have that information, chaperones will be determined first by level of volunteerism for the choral program and/or boosters and secondly by the order in which people express interest in chaperoning (first-come, first serve). If you are interested in chaperoning on the trip, I want to get to know you. Please take the opportunity to volunteer for the choral program.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the trip, or any of the information contained in this packet.
Sincerely,
Jessica E. Lardin
Choral Director
