PASSING OF MARIA STALCUP
Being the treasurer of a volunteer organization is a thankless job — you are the debt collector and with-holder of funds. You are responsible for thousands of dollars that are not yours and, if you are Maria Stalcup, you take that responsibility very seriously. When the Westfield High School Music Boosters began we all came from different schools and had different experiences and expectations. We all wanted what was best for our kids. She took care of our money and paid our bills. She sat for 8 or 10 hours on that first Tag Day adding it all up and worried about getting it all to the bank. She created forms and procedures and made sure that our money was handled safely so our kids could have the best possible experience in the Band, Chorus, and Orchestra.
We were all blessed to be together starting something new and trusting each other to get it right.
Maria died on August 20th in the presence of her sons Mark and Eric, both band members, and her husband, George. They felt blessed to have had her for the time they did. So do we all.
